A total of 118 Tesla vehicles worth about 30 million yuan were shipped to Hong Kong on October 27 via the Guangzhou–Hong Kong Automobile Export Express, marking the brand's first large-scale use of this cross-boundary logistics channel. The move underscores Nansha's growing role as an automotive export hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Launched on June 30 at Nansha Automobile Port, the Guangzhou–Hong Kong Automobile Export Express streamlines vehicle exports by completing mainland customs clearance before shipment and finalizing Hong Kong procedures afterward. This model has reduced license plate registration time in Hong Kong from 14 working days to just three.

Since its launch, the express route has enabled the shipment of 346 new energy vehicles (NEVs) to Hong Kong, including brands such as Smart, GAC Aion, and Tesla. Another 270 NEVs worth 60 million yuan are scheduled for shipment soon, with 118 Teslas comprising the core batch.

Tesla, Hong Kong's best-selling automotive brand in 2024 with 8,846 registrations, is utilizing the express route for bulk exports, demonstrating the model's effectiveness in reducing end-user costs and delivering cross-border economic benefits.

Nansha has emerged as a key hub for mainland auto shipment to Hong Kong. In 2024, over 12,000 vehicles—more than 90% of them NEVs—were shipped via Nansha, up nearly 20% year-on-year and representing 46% of mainland auto shipment to Hong Kong.

Supporting this is Nansha Automobile Port, China's largest ro-ro terminal cluster and a major automotive logistics hub in South China. It includes the Nansha, Haijia, and Jinyang automobile terminals, featuring a 2.4-km berthing line and eight auto ro-ro berths that can accommodate vessels up to 70,000 tons. The port can manage over three million vehicles annually and offers 1.61 million m2 of storage, including a 230,000 m2 multi-story garage.

Hong Kong's entirely import-dependent auto market sees stable annual demand of 50,000–60,000 vehicles, mainly from Japan, Europe, and the mainland. Building on the express route's success, Nansha aims to attract more brands and boost exports, ushering in a new phase of mainland–Hong Kong automotive trade cooperation.
